Foot - congenital and acquired defects

We perform corrective surgery for congenital and acquired musculoskeletal defects in adults and children.

Congenital defects:

  • Hip underdevelopment and dislocation
  • Bunion foot
  • Flat foot
  • Deformities and contractures caused by cerebral palsy

The most common congenital anomaly in children is hip underdevelopment. Nowadays, this defect, in exceptional cases, qualifies for surgical treatment thanks to the developed ultrasound diagnostics that allow early detection of the condition. A less common defect, but one that more often qualifies for surgery, is the congenital clubfoot, which does not present diagnostic problems. If conservative treatment of clubfoot is not successful, the child should be referred to the hospital's orthopaedic clinic for further evaluation. Our centre also deals with the surgical correction of joint deformities and contractures in the course of cerebral palsy.

Acquired defects:

  • Hallux valgus (also known as hallux valgus)
  • Transversely flat foot
  • Hammer toes
  • Heel spurs
  • Bone outgrowths
  • Calluses
  • Joint cysts

We operate on acquired foot deformities such as hallux valgus, transverse flat feet and hammer toes with good results. All of these deformities can be surgically corrected at the same time in the course of a few days" hospital stay. Heel spurs, bony prominences, calluses and joint cysts (ganglions) are operated on in one-day surgery and further treatment continues at the hospital's orthopaedic clinic. Patients are individually qualified for surgery following a specialist orthopaedic consultation.
